My skills as a potter are largely self- taught but I had an inspirational few years under the guidance of Ian Godfrey at the Montem School in the 1980s. Since then my work has been evolving and I have produced a wide range of functional domestic stoneware.

I am fascinated by the way stripes create different visual impressions, positive or negative, depending on their thickness and density. The effect of the matt glaze can also give a blurred edge to the outline and occasionally pulls the stripe down into various patterns.

My inspiration comes from Mediterranean pottery, Japanese fabrics and ceramics but mainly from 1950s Rye Pottery which was around in my home when I was growing up.

Sue works from a studio in her north London home. Largely self-taught, she has gained significant recognition for her pottery.
