Rosalie Day White

“A cabalist once said, ‘If you wish to get hold of the invisible, you must penetrate as deeply as possible into the visible.’ Seeking the magic of reality, I paint light, space, form and color, looking for what is essential—hoping to find something meaningful.”

Ms. White, a native of Lynchburg, Virginia, works primarily in oils and watercolors. Her paintings are distinct in that they are relatively small in size. Ms. White characterizes her work as “small and quiet—like moments that make up a lifetime. The paintings, mostly on paper and completed in a short time frame, show the inner workings of my sensibilities. Having been influenced by Ryder, Degas, Vuillard, Morandi, Hopper and Hobbs, I am drawn to life forms, figures, and landscapes, painting them on a small scale so that people might view them as intimate objects for their homes. I’m trying for something more than videos of my everyday life and the physical moods of the natural world.”

White received her B.A. and M.Ed. in Art History and Art Education from Lynchburg College in Virginia. She also attended the Washington Studio School in Washington, D.C and undertook independent study in Paris, France on three occasions. Ms White’s work is included in private and corporate collections in the United States, France and England.
