Christopher Burch
Inspired by the sweeping skyscapes, waterscapes and soft land of the Mid-Atlantic, Christopher Burch paints magnificent oils that perfectly capture nature’s illumination. He prefers to start with simple, compositional exercises in charcoal and pencil that allow him to engage the landscape through artistic expression. As the painting develops, the paint becomes the earth, sky, light and water. “The experience of bringing to life a sense of vast space on a flat surface is one of those indescribable experiences where you may find yourself in a nearly perfect space,” he says.
Christopher Burch is an artist living in Lynchburg, Virginia. Burch’s primary artistic medium is oil. Although Burch has studied painting and worked as a professional artist, he describes himself as being solidly planted in the mainstream of self-taught artists. As he puts it, “All artists eventually must teach themselves regardless of who helps them along the way. Art, at least for me, is essentially a solitary endeavor that must find resolution in individual experience and expression.”
Burch is known for creating paintings ranging from formal miniature works intimate enough for the home to large corporate scale works suitable for public spaces. Some of his most common regional subjects are natural scenes of Ocracoke Island, North Carolina; Jamestown, Virginia; Christiansburg, Virginia; and the many beautiful landscapes and waterscapes across his home states of North Carolina and Virginia.
