The Hills of Bath County - extended
Henry Isaacs, the much beloved New Englander whose iconic use of color is as bold as it is playful returns for a second show.
NEW WORK ADDED, SHOW EXTENDED TO DECEMBER 30
Last year, he reintroduced himself to Bath County. This year, he settled in and learned a secret or two about our little mountain town.
Henry paints where he is, always reaching for a connection to the collector. It’s not just art for art’s sake, it’s home, it’s memory, through the filter of beginner’s mind.
All the landscapes in this show will be familiar—they are just over that ridge, just around that bend, a short hike up to the top, a few miles that way.
The goal is not immediate recognition, rather a doorway to conversation. Henry takes what’s before him and heightens it, goes beyond what he sees to find what can be. He achieves this through a hybrid of plein air style painting and painting from memory and imagination later in his studio. This break between first hand experience and final product creates the space for joy to seep in.
And that is what this show is—
joyful.
Many of the views and landscapes are revisited from last year, intentionally pushing himself to remain surprised by the land where his exhibitions take place.
He eschews preconception, sacrificing speed of production on the altar of involvement, right energy, and an emotional point of view.
The Hills of Bath County opens July 18th, 2024 and will hang in the gallery until October 15, 2024. More information about Henry can be found on his artist page, here.
